It is interesting to see how Turkey’s economic situation and its impacts on people greatly misrepresented by commentators and insufficient economic information is published on the Country Profile pages of the Economist.
All this publications and the fuss created about the “document” and therefore Turkish military is the fight for clearing up the obstacles on the path of regressive Mohammedan theocracy using the tools of democracy.
I would have believed it if I had not traveled Turkey two months ago and seen the poverty, hopelessness and frustration in people both in the country side and in urban centers and cities. It was a great but a sad experience for me to see how AKP government has been pulling the string from people’s eyes by feeding them with Mohammedanism, especially regressive Mohammedanism propaganda. I saw people become like robots, as if they are possessed without no intelligent logical reaction to almost anything that they face every day.
Here some facts on Turkey’s economy:
1. Foreign trade: In 2008 exports (fob) amounted to US$140.8bn, while imports (fob) were US$193.9bn, leaving a trade deficit of US$53.1bn. The export figures include estimates of earnings from so-called “suitcase trade”.
2. External Debt: ~US$280bn Public, ~US$250bn, ~Total=530bn
3. Interest Rates for Foreign debt: 18 % (No other country in the world borrows money with such a high rate!
4. When AKP got the power the external debt was around US$40bn.
5. Unemployment rate is around 14 % (official, 30 % real
As easily can be seen form the data given above, no one or country can sustain development and progress in such conditions. Turkey is, unfortunately, economically bankrupt country and only way to continue with the government is to draw people’s attention to different directions keep them occupied with the “other” worlds issues.
The mechanism for this for rural part of the country and rural areas is to polish and propagate the regressive Mohammedanism, and in the cities and urban areas is to create imaginary terrorist organizations, military coup plans, documents etc. and use these to silence in particular the opposition, intellectuals, academicians, writers, thinkers, activists in general the population.
So, I can go on and on this subject but It is just not convincing for me that all this fuss is about AKP”s or Fetullah Gulen and his gang or anyone’s fight for democracy. This is the fight for clearing up the obstacles on the path of regressive Mohammedan theocracy using the tools of democracy.
